Microchipping

Keep track of your pet

Nearly one out of every three pets will become lost at some point in their lives. Microchips are an incredibly simple, inexpensive and effective way to help lost pets get found, and they keep pets out of animal shelters. These tiny chips serve as permanent pet identification, as they cannot be removed or damaged. By supporting this practice, Bay Animal Hospital hopes to prevent shelter overcrowding, as nearly 8 million animals enter U.S. shelters each year.

A simple process

A microchip is contained in a small, biocompatible capsule smaller than a grain of rice. The devices are nontoxic, hypoallergenic and completely safe. Your veterinarian will place the microchip during an easy, nearly pain-free procedure. The transponder is placed just under the skin where a special biopolymer keeps the device secure. The microchip never has to be removed or recharged during your pet’s lifetime.

The transponder passively transmits radio waves that include an animal-specific tracking number. When the chip is scanned, the central database displays the pet’s name and owner’s contact information. If your pet ever runs away or gets lost, a simple scan of the chip will allow authorities to contact you and get your pet back where they belong: with you, their owner, safe and at home.

Bay Animal Hospital believes microchipping is the safest, most effective method of pet recovery available. It helps reunite more than 15,000 lost pets to their owners every month.
