The veterinarians at Bay Animal Hospital along with The American Heartworm Society guidelines recommend heartworm testing for all dogs greater than 7 months of age whether or not a preventative has been started. Heartworm preventative is recommended year-round for the safety of your pet. Additionally, testing is recommended on an annual basis and re-testing is recommend if there has been a lapse in heartworm preventative administration of more than 4 months. *
